“Why are you trying so hard to fit in, when you were born to stand out?”
-What A Girl Wants
Ever since I changed my way of living to a healthy lifestyle from what it had been before, I feel like I live less like a twenty-two year old and more like a twenty-eight year old. I eat healthy, I go to bed early, and I don’t go out partying with friends on a regular basis. At first I was very self-conscious about it because some may consider it lame or odd that I’d rather eat a lettuce wrap than a hamburger and I’d rather stay in on the weekend with a good movie than go get drunk with my friends. However, after trying it their way, I became confident in my preferences very quickly because it didn’t take long for me to figure out what I truly enjoyed and what was “me”. It really was a no brainer.
Figuring out how to live for you is so important. We all feel the pressure from a really young age to fit in and do our best to keep up with what others are doing. And I know it sounds super cliché to say we are all unique and should embrace our individuality, but it’s so true! Just because one person likes to do things one way doesn’t mean the rest of us have to follow along! There will never be another you, so make the most of it!
Figuring out “me” and who I am has been such a fun adventure! I have found peace throughout the process and a new love and appreciation for myself. I no longer worry if any part of me will be good enough for anyone else because if it makes me happy, that’s all that matters! Instead of trying to conform who I am and what I like to who others are and what they like, I am presenting myself for who and what I am with no concern for change. The world will either like it or leave it!
So I am going to tell you a little bit about myself! I love to eat healthy and exercise. These two changes are the best I have ever made for myself and my lifestyle! I hate drinking soda, eating carbs, and drinking alcohol because doing these things seriously makes me feel physically awful. I don’t like going to clubs or bars, it just isn’t my kind of atmosphere. I love spending time by myself, and I also love to pamper myself. I will spend my days off cooking, working out, and giving myself a mani/pedi while watching chick flicks. I absolutely love to clean! Cleaning is a good outlet for me and it puts me in a good mood! I have very few close friends, but I actually prefer it that way. I can be very social but still love alone time. I live very simply and don’t often spend money or go shopping. I’m actually kind of horrible at it. My typical day includes cooking, POP Pilates, social media, and a good amount of close friend and family interaction. Of course I work as well which takes up a lot of my time. But that in a nutshell is how I live!
It may not be glamorous or exciting every moment of the day but it makes me happy! Find what makes you happy! Know who you are and how you want to live and live it! It doesn’t have to be to anyone’s liking but your own!
